Before entering politics, he worked as a gastroenterologist and professor at Louisiana State University. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008, representing Louisiana's 6th congressional district, before being elected to the Senate in 2014. Cassidy is recognized for his efforts in healthcare reform, including co-sponsoring the Cassidy-Collins bill and advocating for Medicaid expansion and rural health initiatives.
